The Farhoud in Baghdad: Two Stormy Days in June 1941

Following the demise of the pro z German and anti-British government in Baghdad in the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, a mass carried a pogrom against the Jewish population of Baghdad. This lecture will summarize current historic research into the event. Central questions such as why the British troops were delayed? Was there Nazi involvement? How did it affect the future of the Jews in Iraq will also be addressed.

Ronen Zeidel is a historian of modern Iraq. He is deputy chairman of the Center for Iraq Studies at the University of Haifa. He is teaching at the Hebrew University and the Universities of Haifa and Tel Aviv courses on the history of Iraq, the geopolitics of the Middle East, and the Arab-Israeli conflict. In recent years, some of his publications were published in Arabic in academic journals in Iraq.
