Dr. Raz Zimmt is an Iran specialist at the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS). He holds a master's degree and a Ph.D. in Middle Eastern history from Tel-Aviv University. His Ph.D. dissertation focused on Iranian policy towards Nasserism and Arab radicalism between 1954 and 1967. In addition, he is the editor of "Spotlight on Iran" published by the Meir Amit Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center. He had served more than two decades in the IDF's Military Intelligence Corps. His main research interests are the politics, foreign relations, society & social media of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He is a regular commentator for television, radio, and the newspapers.

Protest and Change in Iran

In recent years, Iran has faced increasing waves of protests that reflect economic and social public grievances and growing public criticism of the Iranian regime. The lecture discusses the in-depth trends in Iranian society, the growing gap between the Iranian public, and especially the young generation, and the Islamic regime, the women's struggle for change, the roots of the protest movement and its prospects for political change in Iran.

Iranian Involvement in the Arab Middle East

Since the outbreak of the "Arab Spring" in the Middle East, Iran has stepped up its efforts to extend its influence in the Arab world, especially in Syria and Iraq. The lecture examines what is behind Iran's activities in the Arab world, how Iran has managed to realize its interests in the region and the constraints it faces.

Iran's Nuclear Strategy

Iran's nuclear armament has been considered one of the main threats facing Israel. The lecture discusses Iran's nuclear ambitions, what is Iran's nuclear strategy, the status of its nuclear program after the nuclear deal and following the US withdrawal from the agreement in 2018, and how sanctions affect Iran's nuclear policy.
